Fish Gripper saves fish, May 26, 2008
By jim6hund from NJ
"I bought my Fish Gripper from Cabalas in '06. It's been a great aid for catch and release. I fish for Lake Trout and Rainbows from a boat, and usually release all I catch. Unlike bass, trout have teeth, so you cant grab them by the lower jaw like bass on TV. They also are delicate, and too much handling out of the water will diminish their chance to survive if you release them. I found that using the gripper, I can grab the fish by his lower lip, keeping it partially in the water while I work on de-hooking. It does not seem to hurt them. If the de-hooking gets too involved I can submerge the Trout while still holding on with the Gripper, allowing it to catch its breath. Works with other toothy critters, like Pike, also. I have nor tried it on anything over 4-5 lbs. yet. I would imagine that there is a limit to the size fish it can safely handle. But for the price, with proper application, it's a great inexpensive alternate to some of the higher priced grippers."

Fish gripper, May 26, 2008
By Plugsplus from Michigan
"Typically, I'm handling several fish per outing and I'm tired of getting my hands chewed up. I want to release most of the fish unharmed as quickly as possible. But the teeth and hooks are sharp and the fish are wet and slippery. The fish gripper has turned out to be a great help. I can lock down on the lip and get the hooks out without getting my hands tore up. It won't replace the net completely but I really like it. I would have given it 5 stars but there is some lip damage to the fish. Perhaps the jaws could be rounded slightly to reduce this. Plugsplus thanks you for a very good product."

The fish grip fish holder, May 15, 2008
By captsean from Mandeville, Louisiana
"Everybody can use one! Many of my clients want to take pictures but don't want to handle the fish so this takes all the dirty work out for everyone. Simply clamp on and and take all the pictures you want. It's light, durable, and even floats. Better yet, it will probably outlast every one of us."

The only grippers I use, May 5, 2008
By troutman777 from New Orleans Louisiana
"I guide in the saltwaters of Lousisna and I use them all the time for trout, redfish and blackdrum. They work great, there inexpenive, and never rust. I have my original 5 on my boat for a few years. My customers hold fish as big as 50 lbs up with them with ease. It's great for the customers that don't like to touch the fish too, and is awesomme for holding fish up to take pictures. I highley recomend them."

Ok for 3 to 6 lb. fish, April 8, 2008
By Kayaksrule from Fairhope, AL
"I use this when fishing from my kayak and I recommend it for specks, redfish bass and the like for up to 6 lbs. As it is plastic, it flexes on large fish. A great tool in the right place."

By Basszilla
"Light, strong, floats, great for handling toothy critters. My favorite feature is the little hole you can insert the hook of a scale into and weigh the fish without stressing their gills or punching a hole in their lip. Great product, great price. Highest recommendation."

Not for every fish, March 10, 2008
By MrFixitGar from Venice, Florida
"I purchased this because I was interested in keeping my all my digits when unhooking Spanish Mackerel, sadly it doesn't do a very good job of holding a fiesty little mackerel steady. First, because the grip is so wide, it is extremely difficult to get it in their mouths. Secondly, when you do get it in their mouths, there is an opening in the bottom of their mouths that the grip invariably goes through and the mackerel flips all over the place. With other species of fish with a mouthful of teeth (blues, kings, and even small sharks) it works very well. Realistically it is a very good product and I would have given it an excellent rating except for the fact that I was hoping that it would be the answer to all my unhooking concerns."

Excellent tool !!, February 1, 2008
By Chagoya from Mérida Yucatán, México
"I have just buy one of this, it´s an excellent tool, it has helped me to safely handle Barracudas, who would like to remove a lure taking this fish from their mouth?, the grip is strong enough to hold the fish without apparent damage. To me, the decision point was that it´s made of plastic, I usually fish inshore and surf fishing, and the salt as you know affects everything. Also a nice feature is that the grip floats. Highly recommended. Regards"

Fish Gripper, August 14, 2007
By skuterkomputer from South Florida
"I was tired of getting stuck on my kayak trying to manage a lively fish. The Boca Grips were too expensive and they didnt float. These are perfect and suit my kayak fishing needs very well. Supposedly it is more humane to the fish and it makes handling fish/ removing hooks much easier."

Useless for salmon, August 14, 2007

Fish Grip Holder, August 8, 2007
By Saltyak from Coastal Plain of Georgia
"The fish grip is a great product for the money. It floats so I don't have to worry about it if I drop it out of my kayak. It won't rust which is important because I use it in saltwater. I like the high-vis orange color too. I have used it on small sharks, reds, trout, ladyfish and other saltwater species. It won't hurt the fish and makes it safe to remove hooks and release fish with sharp teeth."

The Fish Grip Fish Holder, August 7, 2007
By Stuman from Cincinnati, OH
"I had a chance to use this just the other night while fishing in a local pond. I caught a 3 lb. bass and it had swallowed the hook deep. The fish grabber not only securely and safely held the fish, but also gave me greater freedom to safely remove the swallowed hook. Fits easily in the small Cabellas Tackle Bag."

Great product, August 6, 2007
By Scouter945 from Tulsa, OK
"Saw a recommendation for this on a Boundary Waters fishing guide, and it was right on the money. This gripped everything my son and I caught on our Boundary Waters canoe trip. On really small fish you may have to use your forceps to open the fishes mouth enough to get the grippers in but no big deal. It held a thrashing 36in Northern Pike out of the water no problem. I used it on bass too since we were far away from medical facilities. After a bass threw a treble hook deep in the finger of one of the Dad's on our trip, I'm a firm believer in using something other than your hand. Plus...when I dropped it in the water it floats!"

A Great Gripper, July 31, 2007
By 88888 from Washington State
"We went fishing on the Queen Charlottes and had just purchased the Fish Grip. We used it on Ling Cod to 20 lbs. small Halibut, rock fish and was even able to hold on to King Salmon and Coho after netting them and bringing them into the boat. It works great! Not to crazy about the wrist strap though. I would recommend this to any and all fisherman."

Gripping Fish with Ease, July 30, 2007

Fish Grips, July 13, 2007
By DaveNEValentine from Nebraska
"In handling pike during our last fishing trip we landed over 50 fish and used this to hold them to remove hooks and take photographs. The pike had alot less damage to them, reentered the water healthier, and there were no cut fingers. They also show no wear other then some scratches on the plastic. Also the price cannot be beat. I would definately recommend this product to anyone interested in any type of lip grips."

Fish Gripper, June 26, 2007
By Ronbo3 from Middleton, Wisconsin
"The Fish Grip Fish Holder (Gripper) worked very well. We had a total of 5 Grippers on our recent trip to Canada for Walleyes and Pike. On average we caught over 100 fish per day per boat with the walleyes averaging over 21 inches and Northern Pike up to 42 inches. We used the Gripper on almost every catch without a failure. Once it was locked onto the lower jaw it held every time regardless of the size of the fish. Pike in particular would kick side to side when lifted into the boat and the Gripper held fast. In some instances the Gripper was difficult to hold onto with the fish kicking but the wrist strap saved the day. We weren't too sure about the strength of the wrist strap but they held even on the largest fish. I would reccomend this tool to anyone. I've used other brands that cost 10X more than the Gripper that didn't hold the fish nearly as well. In fact we left them all home on this recent trip and relied soley on this orange plastic Gripper. Thanks for a great product!!!"

Inexpensive Fish Gripper, June 25, 2007
By synthnut from Pomona , NY
"This little Orange fish gripper is very inexpensive , and once you get the hang of using it , you will find how easy it is to use....To look at it , you'll laugh and say that it won't hold much of anything ...until you use it !!... I've already held a 28 lb Striper with this thing !!... The only thing I have to do is to beef up the strap that's on it....It does not harm the fish, and holds it very well....No damage at all to the fish, and they have all gone away happy, with no blood or broken jaws ...Highly recomended ...."

Great Lip Gripper, May 21, 2007
By kayakfishguy from St. Marys, GA
"This is a great lip gripper for the price. In fact, if it had swivel jaws, it would be perfect. It floats and there's no worries about corrosion. I tied a lanyard to mine and connected it to my kayak. When I caught a 28 inch Red Drum, two weeks ago, I towed him to shore using it. There, I was able photograph him and return him to the water. The Fish Grip did the trick!"

good tool, May 21, 2007
By pinfish from SF Bay Area
"I like this tool because it is affordable, light, and gets the job done. I can stuff it in my back pocket or inside the sleeve of my jacket. Nowadays I just clamp it shut on a belt loop and let it hang there. And I like that it locks to hold, floats, and won't rust. I've lipped dozens of fish already to 8 lbs. Plus it can lift my 15 lb dumbell... I only wish it could pop open and snap shut quickly on a wiggling fish."

"Much like any solid angler, I was looking for a way to keep the fish as in good of shape as I could and by not having to handle the fish with my hands, it has really benefited me and the catch. I was looking for a reliable lip grip without spending a bunch of money.....this product is great and very cost effective."
